Select, examine and palpate the site of the proposed venipuncture. Most often, venipuncture is performed on the ulnar vein. If necessary, you can use any superficial vein - wrist, back of the hand, above the thumb, etc.
Apply a tourniquet. The tourniquet is applied 7-10 cm above the venipuncture site on a shirt or diaper. When applying the tourniquet, do not use the hand on the side of the mastectomy.
It is important to remember that prolonged application of the tourniquet (more than 1 min) can cause changes in the concentration of proteins, blood gases, electrolytes, bilirubin, and coagulogram parameters.
Take the needle, remove the white cap to open the needle with the valve.
Screw the end of the needle closed with a rubber valve into the holder. If the needle has a protective pink cap, bend it toward the holder.
Ask the patient to clench his fist. Do not give the hand physical exercise (vigorously clenching and unclenching the fist), as this can lead to changes in the concentration of some parameters in the blood.
To increase blood flow, you can massage your arm from the wrist to the elbow or use warming accessories - a warm (about 40 ° C) wet napkin applied to the puncture site for 5 minutes. If you cannot find a vein on this arm, try to find it on the other one.
Disinfect the venipuncture site. Disinfection of the venipuncture site is carried out with a gauze napkin moistened with an antiseptic, in circular motions from the center to the periphery.
Wait until the antiseptic dries completely or dry the venipuncture site with a sterile dry swab. Do not palpate the vein after treatment! If complications arise during venipuncture and the vein is palpated again, this area must be disinfected again.
Remove the colored protective cap.
Fix the vein. Grasp the patient's forearm with your left hand so that the thumb is 3-5 cm below the venipuncture site, stretch the skin. The nurse should be in front of the patient to support him in case of fainting and prevent him from falling.
Insert the needle into the vein. The needle with the holder is inserted with the bevel upwards at an angle of 15°. When using a needle with a transparent chamber RVM, blood will appear in the indicator chamber when it enters the vein.
Insert the test tube into the holder. The test tube is inserted into the holder from the side of its cap. Press the bottom of the test tube with your thumb, while holding the rim of the holder with your index and middle fingers. Try not to change hands, as this can change the position of the needle in the vein. Under the action of the vacuum, blood will begin to collect in the test tube on its own. A carefully dosed vacuum volume ensures the required blood volume and the exact blood/reagent ratio in the tube.
When taking a sample from one patient in several tubes, follow the correct sequence of filling the tubes.
Remove (loosen) the tourniquet. As soon as blood begins to flow into the tube, it is necessary to remove (loosen) the tourniquet. Long-term application of the tourniquet (more than 1 min) can cause changes in the concentration of proteins, blood gases, electrolytes, bilirubin, and coagulogram parameters.
Ask the patient to unclench his fist.
Remove the tube from the holder. The tube is removed after the blood has stopped flowing into it. It is more convenient to remove the tube by resting your thumb on the rim of the holder.
Mix the contents of the filled tube. The contents are mixed by turning the tube over several times to completely mix the blood and filler. Do not shake the tube abruptly! This can lead to the destruction of the formed elements of the blood.
Place the tubes in a centrifuge and start centrifuging (no later than 1 minute after filling the tube).

Apply a dry sterile napkin to the venipuncture site.
Remove the needle from the vein. If the needle has a built-in protective cap, immediately after removing the needle from the vein, lower the cap onto the needle and snap it into place. Then place the needle in a special container for used needles.
Apply a pressure bandage or bactericidal plaster to the venipuncture site.
Disinfect the equipment used. Make sure the patient feels well.
